In recent months, there are several new train services that had commenced operations in China. They include high speed train lines, as well as tramways and subway lines. Also, there are several innovations made to the technology of railways.
SUBWAYS, TRAMWAYS & INTERCITY RAILWAYS
1. Longest intercity railway in Greater Bay Area put into operation
On the 27th of May last year, two sections of the Guangdong Intercity Railway came into operation, linking the various cities in Guangdong Province from east to west, including Huizhou, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing. The total length of the line is 258 kilometers long, where ordinary trains stop at all 39 stops while fast trains stops at just 14. As for the average speed, it can be up to 200km/h. Tickets can be bought via the official railway ticket-booking app 12306 or by just swiping the transportation cards.

2. Launch of China's first carbon fiber subway train
In January 24 this year, the country's first carbon fiber subway train, the CETROVO 1.0, began operations on Qingdao Metro Line 1 in Shandong Province after months of testing. Unlike traditional subway trains, it utilizes the carbon fiber structure, making it 11% lighter and allowing it to operate using 7% less energy, which saves about 130 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

3. Shanghai Airport train link
On December 27 last year, a new commuter rail line opened, connecting Shanghai's two airports - Hongqiao and Pudong. It is 59km long and takes about 40 minutes to travel between the two airports with a speed of 160km/h and a fare of RMB 26 (around US$4).

China's CRRC debuted its first hydrogen-powered trainset, called the CINOVA H2, at InnoTrans last year in September. This train runs on hydrogen power, which achieves zero carbon emissions while operating, thus providing a solution for nonelectrified railway passenger transport. As for the range of operation, the train can go for a distance of 1200 km at a speed of 160km/h, after which it requires a recharge for only 15 minutes.

On November 16 last year, a tourist railway linking Sanya city with Ledong Li Autonomous County in Hainan province commenced operations. In this line, the rolling stock used are the CINOVA 2.0 EMU trains. Dubbed as the trendiest in China, there are three distinctive themes for the trainsets - "Phoenix Dances in the Sky" (凤舞九天), "End of the World" (天涯海角) and "Looking Back" (回首之约). Each EMU train running on this rail line consists of four carriages, which includes three distinctive carriages and one themed carriage. With the tropical island landscape of Sanya as the theme, three theme carriages are created - "Walking into Sanya", "Coconut Wind and Sea Charm", and "Vibrant Ocean" depending on the trainset.
